About Easton, MA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Easton, located 30 minutes from Boston, was first settled in 1694 by Clement Briggs. In 1725 the area was incorporated as the “Town of Easton”. During the Revolutionary War George Washington stayed at the Benjamin Williams Tavern on Bay Road, now the second oldest existing house in Easton.
The industry of the town most likely began with the discovery of bog iron. The first commercial steel was made in Easton and was probably used for muskets. In 1803 the Ames Shovel Company was established. It provided the shovels that laid the Union Pacific Railroad. The company helped shaped not only the town’s economy, but also its architecture. The famed architect, H. H. Richardson, designed such buildings as Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, the Ames Free Library, and the Old Colonial Railroad Station.
Historically the town has retained a small but strong industrial base. This includes the production of the Morse automobile, cotton and thread mills, machine shops, and the location of the spring that supplies the oldest carbonated beverage company in America. However, Easton has remained a town with a rural feeling.
The citizens of Easton have long supported an excellent school system. In 2008 the MCAS scores placed Oliver Ames High School students in the top 10% of the state in English/language arts and the top 25% in math. Stonehill College, a Roman Catholic institution, is nationally renowned.
Normal temperatures range from an average of 25.9 degrees in January to an average of 71 degrees in July. In July of 2009, Easton was named #17 in CNN Money Magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Live.
